Briza media (Quaking Grass), a perennial hardy grass that forms dense tufts of narrow linear blue-green leaves. The flowers are held well above the foliage, are green with tinges of dark purple, and then mature to straw-coloured seed heads. This very attractive grass grows in moderately fertile, well drained but retentive soil in full sun and is common in natural, calcareous grassland, where it grows in loose tufts.
