![]() Above is a familiar picture of an elephant drinking from a river. However, many rivers dry out seasonally. The elephants then dig holes and drink from these (right). They also dig holes in dry parts of the river bed if the quality of adjacent water is quite poor; the sand acts as an efficient filter. Other animals benefit from the water holes dug by the elephants. |
